Born in Sheffield, England, Lightbound earned her BA from Glasgow School of Art (2012), and her MFA in Printmedia from School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2016). In 2017 she was named a Visual Arts Fellow by Luminarts Cultural Foundation. Lightbound’s work has been exhibited in the US and Europe, with recent exhibitions in San Antonio, Chicago, St Louis, and Berlin. Her research centers on relationships between bodies, architecture, and public space. Tilt-Shift: Perspectives on Photography will be led by lauded Continuing Studies faculty member, Frances Lightbound.įrances Lightbound is an artist and educator based in Chicago, whose studio practice spans photography, printmaking, sculpture, and installation. No prerequisites are required for this course. These artists will provide a grounding as the course begins to delve into modern and contemporary perspectives from photographers who have continued to push the medium such as, Ansel Adams, Martha Rosler, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Gerhard Richter. Early figures in the development of photography will be featured including Nicéphore Niépce, Louis Daguerre, and William Fox Talbot. Taking advantage of newly available online resources, students will take a variety of virtual tours of significant locations in the history of photography and acclaimed museums here in Chicago and around the world.
